This program is a LifeCrafting Group (not a Menstuff) initiative. Having personally witnessed and experienced the quality and power of the leader of these programs, Menstuff is happy to recommend this program to any young man and their family.
AWAKENING THE LEADER – BECOMING A MAN is an experiential bush leadership program for teenage males from their mid-teens on. The methodology is based on a contemporary rite-of-passage approach, supporting the young man to transition into a man with the capacity for self-reflection and the capability to act responsibly and respectfully in his world. Bolstered with his increased knowledge of himself and understanding his impact on others, he is in a position to awaken his inner leader and choose to make a conscious positive mark in his community.
Intention:
The anticipated outcome is that every young man participating in the AWAKENING THE LEADER – BECOMING A MAN program will leave:
- Demonstrating a profound personal leadership from his heart
- With a capability to authentically relate with peers, elders, the other sex, and the earth, respectfully and responsibly.
Roadblocks to effective personal leadership:
- AWAKENING THE LEADER – BECOMING A MAN addresses the issues that prevent a young man’s ability to rise to his highest potential. In western society, factors that negatively affect young males are: Bullying – both doing the bullying and being bullied
- Peer pressure
- Depression
- Violence amongst young men
- Low self-esteem demonstrated by lack of self respect, lack of respect for girls, low regard for teachers, parents and elders
- Crime – from break-in’s to violent attacks on old people
- Drug and alcohol addiction
Underlying causes:
Young males are generally experiencing a lack of identity and clear direction in life. They are expected to respond to the social pressure of performing according to imposed norms. The social system that many adults grew up with, no longer exists. Roles are changing, families and communities are disintegrating, and young people’s disconnection from the earth reflects an alienation from a grounded source.
Values:
The program is designed to support the young man to embody the values of diligence, empathy, compassion, respect, generosity, love and awareness
Skills learned:
He will learn amongst others, the skills of communication, listening, and essential bush skills. He will be guided through a series of processes to ignite the fire of the leader with heart, and develop his strength to build and manage healthy relationships.
Who is involved and how:
This program involves all members of the family. Mothers, while not attending the camp, play a vital role in supporting the development of the young man. Siblings, grandparents, and other family members are very significant for the welcoming back celebration on the last day of the program. The father/mentor accompanies the young man on the camp. If the family are unable to offer a mentor, one will be provided by the LifeCrafting Group.
Mentoring:
Essential mentoring training will be given to the men supporting ongoing one-on-one roles between a man and a young man during and after the camp.
The Team:
Only skilled highly experienced people lead the program as facilitators. The team is lead by Allan Rudner. For more information about Allan, please click here.
The AWAKENING THE LEADER – BECOMING A MAN program iscustomised from generic modules to be most appropriate in every situation.
